THE SUCCESS FACTORS OF A PLM PROJECT

In setting up a PLM system, you will be engaging in a powerful company strategy putting an extended, diversified ecosystem into action. This new approach brings together not only your IT structure, but also your working methods and business processes, to create a whole new working platform.

To get the most from a PLM system, the project needs to be driven by the Executive Management, but most importantly, requires the involvement of all the persons concerned by the solution

The first phase of a project consists in eliciting and gathering information, allowing each staff member to become aware of the benefits of PLM for his business context and the enhanced productivity which PLM will bring to his specific function. The idea is to integrate each staff member’s interests, expertise and practices to build a lasting, central data repository.

The success of a PLM solution also means that the specific features of each organization have been taken into account. Depending on its area of activity and size, a given company will not be facing the same challenges. For one company, the focus may be on satisfying regulatory requirements ; another company may be aiming at a faster product-time-to-market, while another company may be seeking to reduce costs while maintaining quality.

In each case, a primary success factor in setting up a PLM system will consist in moving forward by segments, stabilizing each phase before deployment.

A support system during the changeover will be indispensable to provide the daily support needed by the PLM tool users, and to assist them in becoming proficient in the new working methods.
